I'll tell you, being a teen isn't easy. Our teenagers are dealing with more pressure than ever before. The pressure to succeed, the pressure to perform, to please, to fit in, to engage, and the pressure to deal with adult issues with only minimal adult faculties. Boy howdy. I don't know how they make it, how they cope. Most of them don't, really. They throw themselves into unhealthy situations that only lead to more stress and problems. They drink, or cut, or stop eating, they date individuals who are harmful to them, the give up, they get angry, they do all sorts of things to try to cope with all of the divorce and pain, rejection and lack of love.
The question that I keep thinking is, how do we help these students. How do we help them find the grace of God, the peace of following Christ. I think the answer isn't big fancy youth programs. I think the answer is the people of God showing up in these students' lives. If there is one thing a teen needs it is a rock, a shelter, safe adults.
What keeps you from being one of those safe adults? What keeps you from sheltering them? From Discipling one of them? Our teens are dealing with some rough stuff, and it is all of our jobs to help them navigate these dark waters. What will you do about it?
If you are interested in being apart of a teens life but don't know how, you can comment here and we can begin a dialogue on the subject.
